5 Tips for Staying Active While Traveling

Traveling can often disrupt your normal fitness routine. Whether you’re on a family vacation or a business trip, it’s easy to put exercise on the backburner. However, staying active while traveling is key to maintaining your health and energy levels. Follow these 5 tips to keep up your workout regimen even when you’re on the go.

1. Pack Exercise Clothes and Gear

The first step is making sure you have the right equipment. Pack comfortable workout clothes, socks and shoes in your luggage. Bring extras if your trip is longer than a few days. Also pack small exercise gear like a jump rope, resistance bands or a yoga mat if you have room. Having your workout wear and accessories on hand makes it easier to stay motivated.

2. Scope Out the Hotel Gym

Once you arrive, take a look at what your hotel gym has to offer. See what types of cardio machines, free weights or other equipment are available. Knowing what you have to work with makes it simpler to plan quick workouts in your room or down in the fitness center.

3. Go for Walks or Runs

One of the easiest ways to move your body is simply getting outside for some fresh air. Explore the area around your hotel or conference venue by foot. Use apps like MapMyRun to track distance while seeing local sights. Ask the front desk for recommended walking or running routes.

4. Do Bodyweight Exercises

You don’t need weights or machines to get in an effective strength session. Perform bodyweight moves like squats, lunges and planks. Knock out push-ups and crunches in your room. Dynamic exercises like jumping jacks and burpees will also keep your heart rate up.

5. Take Advantage of Hotel Pools

Many hotels have pools you can use for lap swimming or water aerobics. Swimming is an excellent low-impact activity. If you don’t have time for the pool, find out if your lodging has a hot tub – it’s a great place to relax muscles after travel and exercise.

With a little creativity, you can maintain an active lifestyle wherever your travels take you. Use these tips to keep up your regular workout routine so you can return home feeling healthy and rejuvenated.
